Each year several villages in Provence honour the pumpkin and other gourds. There’s nothing quite like a medieval village decorated with autumnal arrangements to celebrate the season. In France they call the Pumpkin Festival “La Fête de la Courge”. It promises to be a great family outing and a perfect picture opportunity.
Lauris: If you are in the Luberon visit the town of Lauris on October 4th, 2009 for their Fête de la Coucourde. Pumpkin procession and pumpkin carving.
Rians: If you are in the Var try on Oct 10-11th, 2009 be sure to stop by Rians which will hold it’s 13th annual event. Largest pumpkin contest. Prizes for the most oddly shaped pumpkin. Local restaurants offer meals made with pumpkin.
Rognes: If you are staying closer to Aix-en-Provence you can attend the Fête de la Courge in the village of Rognes on November 1st, 2009. Local growers, expositions, and contests.
