The Cousteau Foundation and The National Geographic Society ship Alcyone, also known as " Daughter of the Wind", was in the Vieux Port of Marseilles recently.
Their mission is to study the marine life in the Mediterranean 60 years after Jacques Cousteau logged the first findings. Stops include the Scandola Nature Reserve in Corsica, Spain's Medes Islands, and Cabrera National Park south of Mallorca.
With its revolutionary Turbosail™ system, which saves on fossil fuel, it’s an impressive looking ship. Using a hollow, rotating metal cylinder for propulsion, the ship appears to have two smokestacks. Apparently the thrust coefficient is even greater than the best sails ever made.
