Malmousque

Nestled in the heart of the 7th arrondissement of Marseille just a short distance from the Vieux Port is the Anse de Malmousque, a small enclave that faces the Frioul Islands and Chateau d'If.

Marseille is made up of 110 different villages along the coast and in the back country. Malmousque can only be discovered on foot or by sea as the roads are far too narrow for a car. A small pathway leads to the tiny fishing port where the city has also built a series of staircases so that the inhabitants can have easy assess to the water. At lunch time last week groups of people leaving nearby businesses headed to the waters edge with sandwiches and bathing suits for their lunch break. If you want to discover Malmousque and the other nearby ports Chez Fonfon, one of the better restaurants offers a menu at 85 euros per person which includes Bouillabaisse, a bottle of wine for 2, coffee and dessert which starts off with a 45 minute boat ride into the Vieux Port, Vallon des Auffes and Malmousque. This is an ideal way of showing off Marseille to visitors while introducing them to Bouillabaisse, the city's signature dish.  www.chez-fonfon.com/ballade_bateau reservation by phone only at 04 91 52 14 38
