From June 4-6, 2010 the owners of France's most remarkable gardens (a designation awarded by the Ministry of Culture) open their doors to all garden enthusiasts. Over 1.5 million people are expected to visit the most spectacular gardens in France. There are over 2000 gardens open for the occasion. 50 of them are located in Provence.
Last year I the good fortune of visiting La Louve in Bonnieux photographed above. This garden was the brain child of Hermès designer Nicole de Vésian who went from designing leather goods to shaping the vegetation in the garden of her new home. Her work became an inspiration for many gardens throughout the region. The choice of vegetation respects the landscape of the Luberon on this extraordinary series of terraces that make up the garden.
Current owner Judy Pillsbury, who is also on the Board of the local garden society known as Parcs & Jardins, is the perfect garden connoisseur to keep the garden in all of its splendour. Have a look at the following website to locate a garden near you and be sure to take advantage of this once a year opportunity. www.rendezvousauxjardins.culture.fr
