The wholesale flower market in the city of Hyeres (near Toulon) is holding an Open House April 3, 2010. This is the largest flower market in France and the fourth largest in Europe.
Local producers grow tulips, ranunculus, Calla Lily, waxflower and anthurium on terraced garden beds overlooking the Mediterranean. There are some rather unexpected views of flowers growing at the foot of the sea. In addition to flowers grown just minutes from the market, other varieties (roses, sunflowers, you name it) are sold 5 days a week from 5 am until 8 am. Flowers seen in the markets of Aix or Nice have invariably come from Hyeres.
Open house activities include visits with horticulturists, floral arrangement workshops and at 4 pm a floral parade. For more information go to www.marcheauxfleurs.fr or call 04 94 00 79 90
